Introducing 2D Materials in Magnetic Tunnel Junctions

graphene-based spin valve

I will present experiments on graphene-based spin valves, where graphene is directly integrated by low temperature CVD. Graphene protects ferromagnets from oxidation (unlocking low cost processes for spintronics such as ALD), while adding new enhanced spin filtering properties. In a second part, experiments concerning the use of atomically thin insulator hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) as a tunnel barrier in MTJs will be detailed.
