séminaire Matière Molle et Complexe : Arnaud Lazarus - Institut Jean Le Rond d'Alembert (Paris)

Arnaud Lazarus (Institut Jean Le Rond d'Alembert - Paris) donnera un séminaire intitulé : "Enhancing and exploiting instabilities of slender structures in periodic states".

For many research engineers today, elastic instabilities of equilibrium states of slender structures are no more seen as failures leading to collapse but as great opportunities for functionality. In this presentation, I will show how we could generalize this change of paradigm for the instabilities of structures in periodic elastic states. Here, three fundamental ideas based on the instabilities of systems in periodic states will be developed to exhibit promising new functional mechanisms in structural engineering : i) enhancing parametric instabilities close to diverging states for multi-band energy harvesting, ii) discretizing the stability band-gaps of two-state periodically varying systems for frequency and amplitude filtering and iii) using microstructural instability of space-periodic elastic media for enriching pattern formation.
