Mechanics and Glasses Department

The Mechanics and Glasses Department occupies a unique position at the crossroads of the mechanic, physic and chemistry. Original experimental means and simulation tools have allowed to develop an established competence regarding the mechanical behavior of glasses. Through the founding issues as engineering and nano / micro mechanics of glasses, the department produced a significant work in glass synthesis, glass forming, component’s lifetime, cracking, rheology and surface damage of glasses. The development of quantitative imaging, in-situ experimentation, coupled with operational modeling and constitutive law, strengthens its original expertise.
